Lopatcong Township, Phillipsburg NJ — Spread good will and friendship with the Funny Farm Laughter Club at Perfect Christmas Tree Farm in Phillipsburg NJ. Celebrate WORLD LAUGHTER DAY, Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 10 AM – 4 PM. Help build a global consciousness of world peace, brotherhood and community.

Take a moment to reflect – how do you feel when you laugh? You feel better. A funny thing happens when you feel better. The world improves. Better still, laughter is contagious. People can catch it from each other and it makes them healthier.

We all have the ability to laugh. Laughter transcends status class, age, race and culture, and no matter where we live in the world we all laugh in a similar way. In any language laughter is a recognizable form of friendly communication. The celebration of WORLD LAUGHTER DAY is a positive manifestation of this phenomenon.

Liberate your laughter and play with laughter professionals from around the tri-state area. Volunter to laugh for no reason. Express your emotions at the Gibberish Party, in a language no one knows, dance to live music by Keith Kenny, do Kirtan Laughter, power-posing and get a hug from Mother Nature. Watch guinea fowl chicks hatch (say that 10 times fast,) make wildflower Seed Balls. Dr. Duck, baloon-twister, is here.

Created in 1998 by Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor and founder of the modern laughter Yoga movement, today, without commercial advertising, World Laughter Day celebrations happen in the capitals of the world and in cities, big and small. Its aim is to promote the awareness of laughter as a valid form of complementary medicine and as a vehicle to world peace. Laughter sends an enormous signal to unite people, and encourage positive outlooks, healthy bodies and peace in the world.

The Funny Farm Laughter Club’s World Laughter Day is a free event, where all are welcome. There is a $6.00 charge for parking, which benefits a local non-profit. Walk-in and bike-in for free. Come enjoy a full day of goodwill and happiness.

June & July Schedule

Hello friends,

During a dark period, while caring for my sick mother, I discovered the healing power of joyful laughter as therapy and exercise. Laughing for no reason, without jokes or comedy, caused an instant change in my attitude. Laughing lightened my mood. It was clear that just laughing and breathing could relax tension, soothe pain and diminish my reliance on medication.

The healing energy of laughter can’t cure anything, but it changes everything by developing better ways to react to life’s challenges. It is not always easy to live joyfully in our troubled world, but practicing laughter creates new pathways to happiness. Laughter is a wellness tool that is always available to everyone and its free.

In 2012, I became a Certified to Laughter Yoga Leader and practice laughter almost every day. I learned ways to share this pathway to peace and happiness from laughter therapy professionals. I created the Funny Farm Laughter Club to make a difference in our community.

Join us at the Funny Farm at Perfect Christmas Tree Farm, 999 US Highway 22, Phillipsburg NJ every Sat. at 10:00 AM, Mon. and Thu. at 7:30 AM and Wed. at 7:00 PM for a half hour of laughter. Please call 908-387-1225 to let me know you are coming.

Enjoy the moment,

Make Time To Laugh

Funny Farm Laughter Club at Perfect Christmas Tree Farm in Phillipsburg NJ hosts weekly Laughter yoga sessions starting Thu. Oct. 16 at 6 PM. The half hour sessions continue on Oct. 23 and 30. “We are trying evening meetings to see how it works out. I plan change the day and time of the sessions, from time to time, to accommodate more people to laugh,” say Cynthia Curtis, the club’s facilitator.

Laughter Yoga is a simple yet profound technique. It requires no equipment or experience. It is a body/mind practice for well-being that involves deep breathing and a few stretches, playful laughter exercises (no jokes or comedy), clapping and deep relaxation. It has many benefits besides the joy of laughter. It strengthens the immune system, combats the negative effects of stress, and is a powerful antidote to depression and anxiety. Laughter is a tremendously efficient outlet to release tension and anxiety in a positive way. Laughter helps control negative feelings and anxiety by lowering cortisol levels and releasing feel good-hormones called endorphins and by raising levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Laughter helps control high blood pressure, increases oxygenation to all the cells and tissues and most importantly to the brain, and it produces a sense of well-being and focus. Scientific evidence is proving that laughter is very good medicine.

Developed by a medical doctor from India, Dr. Madan Kataria, Laughter yoga has spread across 72 countries on 5 continents, without advertising, all since 1997. Funny Farm Laughter Club is a part of a worldwide grass-roots movement for health, happiness and peace. Cynthia Curtis leads the half hour session in her 18th century farmhouse, Perfect Christmas Tree Farm, 999 US H’way 22, Phillipsburg NJ. She trained to lead Laughter Yoga by Dr. Kataria’s School of Laughter yoga in NYC and studied with Steve Wilson’s World Laughter Tour.

Everybody is welcome in Funny Farm Laughter Club. It is non-political, non-religious, non-exploitative, non-competitive, non-perfectionistic, non-threatening and it is free. For more information go to, email at or call Perfect Christmas Tree Farm at 908-387-1225.

Stress Relief from Laughter

When it comes to relieving stress, more giggles and guffaws are just what the doctor ordered. Here’s why.

By Mayo Clinic Staff

Whether you’re guiltily guffawing at an episode of “South Park” or quietly giggling at the latest New Yorker cartoon, laughing does you good. Laughter is a great form of stress relief, and that’s no joke.

Stress relief from laughter

A good sense of humor can’t cure all ailments, but data are mounting about the positive things laughter can do.

Short-term benefits
A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:

  • Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
  • Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response and increases your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
  • Soothe tension. Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Long-term effects
Laughter isn’t just a quick pick-me-up, though. It’s also good for you over the long haul. Laughter may:

  • Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.
  • Relieve pain. Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers. Laughter may also break the pain-spasm cycle common to some muscle disorders.
  • Increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. It also helps you connect with other people.
  • Improve your mood. Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your depression and anxiety and make you feel happier.

Improve your sense of humor

Are you afraid you have an underdeveloped — or nonexistent — funny bone? No problem. Humor can be learned. In fact, developing or refining your sense of humor may be easier than you think.

  • Put humor on your horizon. Find a few simple items, such as photos or comic strips that make you chuckle. Then hang them up at home or in your office. Keep funny movies or comedy albums on hand for when you need an added humor boost.
  • Laugh and the world laughs with you. Find a way to laugh about your own situations and watch your stress begin to fade away. Even if it feels forced at first, practice laughing. It does your body good.
  • Share a laugh. Make it a habit to spend time with friends who make you laugh. And then return the favor by sharing funny stories or jokes with those around you.
  • Knock-knock. Browse through your local bookstore or library’s selection of joke books and get a few rib ticklers in your repertoire that you can share with friends.
  • Know what isn’t funny. Don’t laugh at the expense of others. Some forms of humor aren’t appropriate. Use your best judgment to discern a good joke from a bad, or hurtful, one.

Laughter is the best medicine

Go ahead and give it a try. Turn the corners of your mouth up into a smile and then give a laugh, even if it feels a little forced. Once you’ve had your chuckle, take stock of how you’re feeling. Are your muscles a little less tense? Do you feel more relaxed or buoyant? That’s the natural wonder of laughing at work.
