Library Laughter

Start the year right by putting more laughter in your life. Try Laughter Yoga. Laughter is good medicine for your body, mind, and spirit. Anyone can do it since it only involves breathing (Pranayama yoga) and laughing. You have all the experience you need and there is no equipment needed. Make some new friends, laughing in the library. The librarians say it’s okay.

New Name, Meeting Dates and Times

It was suggested that the name of our club might offend some people because it is used to mock mental illness. I don’t know if I agree, but I want everyone to be comfortable in our laughter group so we will be called the Fun Farm Laugh Club from now on. Now, how to change it in Word Press and on Facebook? Any suggestion?

Our summer Saturday morning sessions at Perfect Christmas Tree Farm were fun but some people can’t come then. So for autumn, we are switching the day and time to Sunday at 4 pm. We hope for even more participation.

Our newly named Fun Farm Laugh Club meets at the Phillipsburg Free Public Library once a month at 12 noon and at 6:45. From now on, and until further notice, we practice Laughter Yoga on the first Monday every month. Our next sessions are on Nov. 4, 2019.

At Perfect Christmas Tree Farm in Phillipsburg NJ, Cynthia Curtis, the farmer’s wife, teaches Laughter Yoga to a community of strangers who quickly become friends.

Make Time To Laugh

Are you lonely, unhappy, stressed, in pain, or just like fun exercise? Then try Laughter Yoga. It is fun and easy to do, sitting or standing. You’ll need no special equipment or previous knowledge. You don’t even need a sense of humor because there are no jokes or comedy. We laugh on purpose as exercise, for health and happiness.

When you exercise with laughter, you stimulate the release of chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain.

Endorphins are involved in our natural reward circuits and are related to important activities like eating, drinking, physical fitness, and sex. They maximize pleasure and minimize discomfort and pain. Laughter Yoga trains us to laugh on purpose in good times and bad.

Regular laughter exercise is proven to:

• Burn calories

• Reduce stress

• Boost self-esteem

• Strengthen and build muscle

• Increases heart and lung function

• Ward off anxiety and feeling of depression

Laughing in the Library

This is the 3rd year showing people, just like you, to laugh without jokes or humor, just for the health of it. Modern science agrees laughter is good for the mind, body, spirit. Once you learn how, you can use it 24/7.

Come try Laughter Yoga. Anyone can do it since it only involves breathing (Pranayama yoga) and laughing. You have all the experience you need and there is no equipment necessary. Make some new friends, laughing in the library. No one will tell you to shhh.

To Laugh Or Not

Nothing is funny. People, who may not know each other come together to laugh at life’s situations, real and imagined.

It’s fast moving improvisational expressions of life situations using yogic breathing and laughter exercise. What can you expect?

Expect to catch laughter from one other and become laughter-carriers, spreading laughter to whoever you meet, going forward. Like the ripples in a pool, laughter spreads. People want to be happy. Add laughter to life is the least you can do.

Try it free at Perfect Christmas Tree Farm on Tuesdays at 7 PM. Let me know to expect you. Call or text: 908-763-1945.

Laughter Club

Every Saturday, between 11 am and noon a cross-section of the community gets together for an hour-long Laughter Yoga therapy session which combines simple aerobic exercises, laughter, and Yoga breathing.

Laughter Yoga is a simple and profound practice. We are breathing all the time. Why not add laughter to your breath for 20 minutes a day. See for yourself if laughing on purpose is your way to health and happiness. Become a daily laugher for 40 days. Take the challenge and learn if by adding laughter to your life your mind and body responds and feels lighter, freer, happier. If making Laughter Yoga practice helps to put a smile on your face or relieves your loneliness or pain, you are one of the lucky ones. You own a powerful drug that is, arguably, the worlds “best medicine,” laughter. What other medicine or exercise, for that matter, is natural, has no bad side effects, is available 24/7 and is free. Oh, did I say laughing burns calories as it strengthens muscles? Laughing 20 minutes a day helps you lose weight if you want to.

Join us at the Funny Farm Laughter Club to try laughing as exercise. The Laughter Yoga leader demonstrates simple situations that participants duplicate, which, with eye contact helps everyone to laugh. No worry if childlike playfulness doesn’t work for you. Make-believe laughter is just as effective as spontaneous laughter at exercising heart, lungs, diaphragm, core pelvic muscles, and stimulating ‘feel-good hormones,’ endorphins. The mindful, diaphragmatic breathing we do in Laughter Yoga stimulates the flow of lymph through our bodies. We burn calories and tighten muscles when we laugh, the same as rowing. You can ‘fake it ’til you make it’ and it still works. Intentional laughter is fine. There is no wrong way to laugh or breath.

Twenty-five years ago, a medical Dr. living in India, Dr. Madan Kataria, was tasked with editing a health journal in addition to his regular medical practice. He was stressed. Scientific studies he read claimed laughter as medicine, good for lowering stress and blood pressure. Could such a simple therapy work he wondered. He got his wife and three friends together in a park to tell each other jokes to test the research. And laughter worked and the laughter club grew. Now, 25 years later, people practice Laughter Yoga on 6 continents, in more than 100 countries. Jokes turned to improvisational exercises and the routine grew and spread through culture and societies around the world because laughter is contagious. Today there are tens of thousand Laughter Clubs that need no experience, no applications, no fees, or equipment. They are social clubs where anyone can come and laugh.

This unique formula to better health and happiness is so popular that major corporations use Laughter Yoga Leaders and Teachers to conduct sessions at their campuses. Laughter Yoga is a great way to relax, become stress-free and bond with people.
